April 2, 1998

Jolee's April Fool's joke was to have a fitful night of sleep, or
non-sleep as it were, keeping everyone up and thus leaving her in no
shape for daycare and me in no shape for work. In all fairness to her,
she's got some major molar teething action going on. Lucky for everyone
else because the stay-at-home-day kept me from pulling up to the
computer at work and April-fooling all of you with a story of Jolee's
new baby brother, whose gestation we kept a secret over the last 8
months. Perhaps this e-mail will even fool one or two people who aren't
reading it carefully enough.
Melanie did tell me she was pregnant yesterday. I won't tell you if she
is or not, and let you all decide if she was pulling a fast one or just
had bad timing.
Ha ha ha.

Jolee was very upset last night when I went out to park Mel's rental car
in a driving rainstorm. She pulled her jacket out of the closet and
threw a tantrum. She doesn't get upset when Melanie leaves the house
(like this morning) because I'm always the one who takes her to school.
But when I leave, it's a whole big abandonment thing going on and we
have to distract her in the back of the apartment.

Anyway, I finally calmed Jolee down last night by taking her out onto
the back patio/lanai and letting her see and hear the thunderous rain
pelting the awning. She finally figured out that if she left, she would
get very wet, something she reserves for the bathtub.

Mel did buy Jolee's first potty the other day at Toys R Us, but it's
still too early for Jolee to use the conventional way, as she likes
lifting the lid and standing in it.

Happy national Poetry Month!

One saved response from Karen Konzelman:

Bill-
I enjoyed hearing the Jolee stories. You are a great dad!
By the way, in honor of National Poetry Month, I composed a short poem called
"In Search of the SDIO" SDIO stands for 'sit-down In-N-Out'. It's a fun
poem, but I definitely don't think I should submit it to that poetry contest
you were describing in your last e-mail. Maybe one day I'll write a
children's book and put it in there. In my next life.
Take care,
Karen
